Rose Garden – Place of Enduring Passion
Historical OverviewRose fossils have even been discovered in Europe and the United States. There are hundreds of species, ranging from miniature plants, to giant ramblers. The majority originated in Asia. Most roses produce single flowers, each with a whorl of five petals. Gardeners have cultivated the rose over centuries. The double flower was the first major development. We now have high-pointed hybrids. The hybrid tea roses are the most popular with gardeners today. They originated in France. Polyanthas also originated in France. They were produced from the Japanese Rosa multiflora crossed with a China rose. The Floribunda roses in turn developed from these roses. Floribundas are very popular and hardy shrubs. People started separating the rose plants as rose breeding became popular, early in the 19th century. They were planted on their own in a formal design. Today people are more relaxed; they grow roses together with other plants. This is more of an informal and a natural style. It is however personal taste. One of the reasons People decided to put roses with other plants is because…think about it. For four months of the year, roses look dead.
